AJAR.id – Hello Ajarian! Linens and soft furnishings in a hotel must be laundered regularly to maintain their cleanliness. Linen to be laundered may include bed sheets, pillowcases, bath towels, hand towels, face towels, bathmats, bathrobes, etc. The laundry process can be done by in-house laundry or off-site laundry, depending on the hotel’s decision.
Linens are sorted, washed, dried, ironed, and pressed before finally able to be used again. Once all linen is processed, it needs to be available by the relevant department for re-use. The related departments, such as the housekeeping department and food & beverage department require larger amount of linen than other departments. In this article, AJAR.id will explain the procedures for delivering laundered items to each department.
Linen that has been folded, stacked and counted is usually either returned to the operating department in several ways:
- By delivery to the central linen room on trolleys from where it is issued. This may be carried out by linen room staff, laundry staff or Housekeeping staff.
- By delivery to the maids’ pantries on each guest floor where it off loaded on to the shelves.
- By delivery to the restaurant storerooms by a laundry staff member.
- By collection from the laundry by staff members from each operating department.
