AJAR.id – Hello Ajarian! In order to do ancillary duties, room service staff need to work in coordination with several other departments. Below are the example of ancillary duties that should be done by room service staff.
- Coordinate with Housekeeping or Concierge
Room service staff need to coordinate with housekeeping or concierge to deliver special items like food or beverage such as fruit basket or a root beer which not provided in the mini bar.
This may include complimentary items for VIP or special guests such as fruit baskets or local produce baskets.
If guest has a food allergy such as peanuts or dietary requirement such as artificial sweetener for a diabetic, room service staff may have remove or change items in a guest room.
Room service staff need to coordinate with porters to deliver mail or messages. By this, guest will receive mail or packages which may be distributed by room service with a newspaper delivery.
Porters and housekeeping staff also need to assist in the collection of breakfast doorknob menus and notify room service staff when guests have left trays and trolleys outside their rooms or require them to be collected.
- Coordinate with other departments for special occasion
In some hotels during the summer period, room service staff will be required in the poolside bar and food service area also serve at special dinner parties or functions with the functions staff.
In several resorts, room service staff also need to set up and serve meal on the beach or by a lake. Guest usually request a picnic basket or packed lunch through room service.
For group or tours that are taking day tours, room service staff may have to provide packed meals and travel with the group to serve.
